Panthera Carboneum

Here is a series of the big cats in charcoal.  I am beginning with the four real (roaring) big cats of the world: The Tiger, Lion, Leopard and Jaguar.

Lions have long since been my favorite animal and subject for symbolism in art, but this guy is mostly a study.  I've been trying to find a good picture of a roaring lion as reference, since contrary to popular belief they do not open their mouths wide when roaring.  A good deal of those pictures are of lion yawns.  And while I suppose those are still impressive, it's not the emotion I want.  Here it is. Here is the real roar.
